About

Revlr Studio software tools and practices are born out of lessons learned during decades of media and visualization research at the Imaging Research Center (IRC) at UMBC in Maryland, USA. The research was aimed at finding new digital media tools and practices to address public health challenges such as drug and alcohol addiction, poor education achievement, and economic development. A key takeaway was that public and private efforts to meet these challenges are filled with people who know that social problems like these emerge from vast networks of interrelated factors. They know, but they do not have tools or methods to understand how these myriad factors interact to create the negative and positive synergies that feed the problems. Overwhelmed, organizations turn to silver bullet solutions that ultimately don't yield much. The IRC, consequently, took on the challenge of developing a different type of information and analysis tool that might do the job. The result is the REVLR project.

Revlr Studio was founded in 2025 to bring to full fruition, the results of ten years of that researc. The lead investigator of the research was Revlr Studio's founder, Lee Boot, who worked closely with many staff, students, and faculty colleagues worked on the project over the years. In addition to Lee, the final IRC team was led by Associate Professor Anita Komlodi, Technical Director Ryan Zuber, and Lead Developer June Young.
